Chief of Mission: Cyprus gains success in Rio-2016

Although not gaining any medals in Olympic Games 2016 in Rio, Cyprus’ athletes can be proud of their results. This is the summary of the comment of the Chief of the Mission Olga Piperides. She underlines that six participants became the finalists in different disciplines and shown great performance comparing to the previous Olympics. Three of them reached the seventh place and one athlete eight. Mrs.Piperides notes that such success is gained because of the growing preparation level and sport infrastructure enlarged.
Cyprus’ athletes that shown the best results are:
• Milan Trajkovic in 110m hurdles finished 7th ;
• Apostolos Parelis in discus throw finished 8th
• Kyriakos Ioannou reached 7th place in Men’s High Jump;
• Demetris Hondrokoukis was 12th in Men’s High Jump;
• Kontides was going for a medal in Laser but reached 7th.
On the other turn several participants has not gain such good results as the mentioned above but still shown good performance in Women’s High Jumps, Swimming butterfly, cycling freestyle swimming and Women’s 200m run.
